About the Museum:

The Gimli Glider Exhibit preserves and tells the amazing story of an Air Canada jet that made a successful glide and landing, in 1983, at Gimli airport after running out of fuel. The exhibit has certified parts from the aircraft, a large amount of memorabilia from the pilot, a cockpit mock-up/flight simulator, and a theatre area showing docudramas visitors can view while seated in an authentic 1983 era aircraft passenger seat.

Museum Events:

We are excited about 2023, the milestone 40th Anniversary of this famous landing of a Boeing 767, that our entire team of volunteers provide to the world who travels through our doors.

Currently underway for planning is our first Fundraiser since the beginning of Covid-19 period, and what an Anniversary it is going to be! Planned for SATURDAY JULY 22ND, EVENING within an airport hangar runway side. Visit our website for details and how to purchase tickets. The Dinner and Dance will honor the 1983 event participating individuals and Capt. Bob Pearson, crew members and some passengers in attendance.  We are endeavouring to acknowledge and introduce so many of our local persons who were at the decommissioned airstrip/raceway that summer evening. Winnipeg Sports Car Club members that brought forth fire extinguishers, wives and family members provided beverage and food to the shoeless passengers while they awaited administration staff from Air Canada to arrive in Gimli.  Local residents such as our Fire and RCMP, provided assistance and transport to hotels and one to the hospital for a minor injury while descending down the aircraft chute. Plans are underway for July 23, RM of Gimli Proclaimed Gimli Glider Day.  Details to be announced as finalized......

We anticipate from the current level of interest, high attendance for both days.  Our website www.gimliglider.org  and Facebook, The Gimli Glider Exhibit, will provide ongoing details as they evolve.  Questions can be answered through email at gimligliderinfo@gmail.com Anyone considering attending for the weekend - a caution that summertime means full hotels in our Gimli area, and encouraged to book your accomodations while you can.

We look forward to providing more details as they are confirmed.   THE GIMLI GLIDER EXHIBIT TEAM
