AMM Council

The Nominations Committee is working to identify potential candidates for the upcoming elections at the AGM in December. If you are interested in serving on the AMM Council or would like to recommend someone, please contact Angela Smook (President), Robert Goertzen (Vice-President) or the AMM Executive Director.

Council generally meets four times per year and is composed of a Past-President, President, Vice-President, Treasurer, Secretary, and seven Regional Councilors. The regions are Eastern, Interlake, Northern, Parklands, Western, Central, and Winnipeg but regional councilors do not have to live or work within the region they represent. Council can also appoint additional people to advise and strengthen the AMM in key areas such as reconciliation.

The Nominations Committee is looking to fill the following vacancies:

  • Treasurer (2-year term)
  • Parklands Region or Western Region (1-year terms)
  • Possibly Winnipeg Region (2-year term)

Committees and Working Groups

The AMM is seeking members who have time and energy to contribute their expertise to a variety of committees (governance focus) and/or working groups (assisting with delivery of programs and services). In many cases, the work can be done remotely. List of committees and working groups.

Program Champions (Volunteers)

Program Champions are AMM members (or non-members) who are passionate supporters of the AMM. They have a desire to enhance the capacity of the AMM to better serve the museum community. Champions see a need and step up to fill that gap. They are ready, willing, and able to contribute their expertise to advance the programs and initiatives of the AMM. Champions do not have to live in Winnipeg. We have created a cloud-based workspace that allows us to work with Champions who live in Winnipeg and beyond. Program Champions may evolve into part-time positions as funding allows.

Here are a few ways that Program Champions can help the AMM:

  • Using your connections within the museum community to identify (and encourage) potential instructors for the eight different Certificate Courses
  • Following up with course participants (survey, interviews) to make our courses better
  • Identifying topics and guest speakers for Lunch & Learn events
  • Hosting Lunch & Learn events (Zoom or Teams)
  • Researching and writing articles for newsletters
  • Responding to voicemail messages
  • Maximizing the potential of social media
  • Creating a new Web site 
  • Spreading the word about the AMM’s work to potential corporate sponsors

Casual or Part-time Positions (Paid)

The AMM is seeking one or more motivated people to assist with the delivery of its core programs or services.

Training Program

  • Revitalize the AMM’s Training Program
  • Recruit potential instructors for Certificate Courses
  • Verify and track the progress of people toward a Certificate in Museum Practice
  • Set up Google SITES to house the materials for courses
  • Work with course instructors to update the course materials annually
  • Write and distribute promotional materials for courses (through the newsletter, Museums-MB, social media, etc.)
  • Organize the annual schedule of courses and Lunch & Learn events

Web site

  • Revitalize the AMM’s Web Site 
  • Maximize the potential of the AMM’s current Web site (fresh content, photos, useful links and materials
  • Explore new platforms to host the AMM Web site
  • Obtain cost estimates 
  • Develop a plan for a new Web site

Member’s Program

  • Assist members with the transition to the AMM’s new Member365 portal (coming soon)
  • Create training videos
  • Maintain the member contact information as needed
  • Use Member365 to create a new newsletter template, event registrations, shop products, job board, and member directory
  • Update the tags and records in M365
