Discussion Groups

Join an AMM Discussion Group

To facilitate more efficient communication within the Manitoba museum sector, the AMM has set up two email groups (formerly known as listservs) using Gaggle Mail. Messages sent to one of the groups listed below will go to everyone who is currently subscribed to that group. To reduce the volume of messages you may receive, we have the option of approving each new subscriber and moderating the messages. We can also set the default to "reply to sender" rather than "reply to all." We will be experimenting with the settings until we find the right balance. We will also review the types of discussions so that we can consider setting up smaller, targeted groups in the future. For example, we may set up discussion groups for conservation or Musetoba users if these are frequent topics topics of discussion.

Museums Manitoba Email Groups

Purpose: To allow museum professionals and volunteers to easily connect with colleagues from museums across Manitoba. Depending on the number of people subscribed, this group has the potential to generate a high volume of emails in your inbox so messages may be moderated. Send a note to this group when you:

  • Have items to "Give or Take" from your collections or facility (furniture, storage cabinets, etc.)
  • Are looking for staff or volunteers
  • Have a question about a mystery object in your collection (photos are allowed)
  • Have a question for a conservator
  • Have questions about using the Musetoba collections database
  • Want to collaborate with other museums on projects or exhibits
  • Want to share your bylaws and policies with others
  • Want to brainstorm ideas for special events like Manitoba Day, Culture Days, etc.
  • Want to share an interesting article you found about museums
  • Want to plan a regional tourism package with other museums and attractions
  • Can recommend a museum product or service provider
  • And MORE

Lunch Club Email Group

Purpose: To help with the AMM Lunch & Learn events. Send a note to this group to:

  • Help plan the schedule of dates and topics for Lunch & Learn events
  • Suggest future topics
  • Suggest possible guest speakers for a topic of interest
  • Volunteer to be a guest speaker
  • Volunteer to find a guest speaker on a particular topic
  • Volunteer to be a host or break-out room facilitator
