About the Museum:
Home of the Iron Rose - Dr. Charlotte Whitehead Ross, Canada's first female doctor west of Montreal, from 1882 to 1912. Our museum highlights the early days of the R.M. of Whitemouth, the arrival of the C.P.R. in 1880, the bush camps that provided employment of dozens of workers, plus railroad ties and trestle material for the construction of the C.P.R. as far west as the Rocky Mountains. As the area was being settled by European immigrants, clearing of land for buildings and agriculture began to dominate. Most of the Rural Municipality was settled by 1900.
Our museum has many displays relating to early railroads (the C.N.R. mainline lies a few kilometers south of Whitemouth, in Elma). Many artifacts illustrate the tools and implements that the early settlers used to wrestle the heavy bush and muskeg into very fertile farmland. We display many artifacts from the homes of these pioneers. We have the retired Anglican Church from 1905 completely refurbished on our grounds, as well as 5 other buildings dedicated to our history.
We are wheelchair accessible.
