About the Museum:
The Musée St. Joseph Museum Inc. was established to preserve the history and culture of the Rural Municipality of Montcalm for the enjoyment of the residents and visitors to the area.
Exploring the 20 buildings that make up the museum offers a unique opportunity to see and experience, first-hand, how early pioneer farmers lived and worked in the region more than 100 year ago.
The museum features a historical village, agricultural village, a tourism centre and a campground. Buildings include houses, a school, a church, a general store, typical farm buildings, exhibits of tractors and other agricultural machinery, a blacksmith's shop, a leather workshop, a word-working shop, a significant collection of stationary engines and heritage display of the Manitoba sugar beet industry.
The Centre Parent Tourism Centre, a timber-frame structure decorated with amazing murals by Manitoba artist, Hubert Théroux, is open year-round and introduces highlights of the museum's collections. The museum’s 45,000 artifacts are housed in the buildings of the historical and agricultural villages, which are only open to the public during the summer months.
The St. Joseph Campground has 16 fully-service sites as well as several tenting areas. Modern washrooms, coin-operated showers and a dumping station are available. Campers are asked to please check in at the Tourism Center upon arrival.
Museum Events:
The St-Joseph Museum hosts the annual Montcalm Heritage Festival. This is a two day festival, featuring
a free pancake breakfast on Saturday mornings, museum visits, historical interpretations, parade, musical preformances, children's activities.
Our BBQ suppers are amazing.
Come join us for a weekend of free activities, the second weekend of June.
It's really worth the ride, to our beautiful country side.
