About the Museum:

Our mission at the Brandon General Museum & Archives is to collect, conserve, study, exhibit, and interpret historic and heritage materials relating to the City of Brandon and its place within the history of Southwestern Manitoba.

We are located in Brandon’s original Manitoba Government Services building in the heart of downtown. The BGMA has a variety of exhibits that explore Brandon’s past and present as a city. We feature limited-run exhibits and host various events, workshops, and presentations throughout the year. Our archives and collections contain hundreds of various objects, clothing, documents, papers, and books, all with connections to Brandon.

Our permanent exhibits include the Manitoba Telephone History Collection, a display of the original furnishings from our first City Hall, the Remarkable Women of Brandon and Area wall, collections from the city’s past people, events, buildings, and businesses, and the William G. Hobbs Gallery with prints of Brandon scenes available in our gift shop. We have additional displays highlighting the late Prince Edward Hotel, early city infrastructure and transportation, and downtown architecture.

The Brandon General Museum & Archives is also home to the B. J. Hales Natural History Collection, the largest taxidermy collection of Manitoba fauna in Westman. This collection is over 100 years old and holds over 800 different specimens with contributions by many taxidermists and naturalists over the years.

Visit us to learn all about the origins of the Wheat City, its people and culture, and to get an up-close and personal look at our region’s wildlife.
