About the Museum:
East Beaches Heritage Wing is the only museum serving the large area of the East Beaches, from Patricia Beach north to Victoria Beach and east to Traverse Bay, on the lands of the Cree, Anishinabe and Metis. The museum is centrally located in Grand Marais, just a stone's throw from the entrance to the world-renowned Grand Beach. We are an interactive museum, using technology, artifacts, dioramas, videos, photographs and other exhibit techniques to make stories accessible to our visitors. Our stories iare about the Anishinaabe, Cree, Metis, Settlers and today's community.
Our purpose is to collect and exhibit the hisory of the East Beaches area. Our target audiences are residents and visitors to the area including cottagers, campers and day trippers. We strive to represent the wide East Beaches area and founding cultures in our exhibits and managment committee.
The RM of St. Clements provides operational funding along with a small operational grant from the RM of Victoria Beach. Otherwise the museum relies on grants for projects and events, along with a small amount of public donations. EBHW run by a management committee made up members from the different beach communities. The museum is open seasonal - from the May long weekend to September long weekend, then on weekends until Thanksgiving weekend.
