About the Museum:
The Manitoba Basketball Hall of Fame and Museum is unique in Canada. It is the only provincial basketball hall of fame and museum with a permanent physical site.
The Mission of the Manitoba Basketball Hall of Fame and Museum is twofold:
- to induct into the Hall deserving players, teams and builders for their outstanding achievements in the sport of basketball in Manitoba, and
- to collect and preserve heritage artifacts in the Museum which showcase the rich history of basketball in Manitoba.
To meet these outcomes, the Hall of Fame and Museum Management Committee:
- organizes and hosts Hall of Fame Induction Dinners biennially,
- develops and maintains two Hall/Museum sites: a physical site, and a virtual site.
The physical site for the Hall of Fame & Museum is prominently located within the mezzanine and spectator entrance area in the University of Winnipeg’s Duckworth Centre at 400 Spence Street in Winnipeg. A large wall-mounted oak plaque is the central focus of the Hall of Fame. It lists all players, teams and builders that have been inducted into the Hall of Fame since its inception in 1983. Surrounding the oak plaque are several storage cabinets with display cases for the Museum artifacts. The Museum has received artifacts directly related to each Hall inductee, to add to the thousands of other artifacts in the collection, preserving the rich history of basketball in Manitoba. Three video monitors operate continuously, showing Hall and Museum videos. The virtual side of the MBHOFM has two components:
- a website (Link: https://www.mbhof.com), and
- a publicly available virtual database of the museum's artifacts - a Public Portal called Musetoba (Link: https://www.musetoba.ca). This is available through the support of the Association of Manitoba Museums
